Camping Lantern-Chinese lanterns to be launched at village fiesta

Time: 2009-06-24

One hundred Chinese lanterns will be launched into the night sky as part of this year’s traditional fair and summer party in Edington near Westbury on Saturday.

Held in the Edington playing field, behind The Lamb pub, from 2pm the event will raise money for improvement projects in the village to produce Camping Lantern.

Face painting, craft stalls, candy floss, test your strength, Punch and Judy, the Edington Olympics and a coconut shy are among the attractions during the day.

From 7pm the summer party kicks off, with music from Cornish band Roots Union, a hog roast, bar and the release of the Chinese lanterns, which will cost £1 a go.

len Albano, 30, from Tin Head Road in Edington, is helping to run the event.

She said: “We’re hoping for a good turnout, I imagine most people from Edington will attend and people from neighbouring villages like Bratton and Erlestoke have been invited too.

“Hopefully around 1,000 people will turn up and help raise money.

“People can pay £1 and this gives them a lantern to light and set off into the sky. It should make for a beautiful sight.” News comes from: Yuyao TigerAuto Accessories Co., Ltd.

Proceeds from last year’s event helped to pay for the playing field to be levelled, while a May Ball held three weeks ago helped raise £1,000 apiece for the Bath Cancer Unit charity and the parish council.
